  • Women Leading Change: Case Studies on Women, Gender, and Feminism
    Vol. 3 No. 2 (2018)

    Founded in the spring of 2013, Women Leading Change: Case Studies on Women, Gender, and Feminism is an online undergraduate journal featuring case studies authored by the Newcomb Scholars, an elite cohort of undergraduate women at Tulane University. Published periodically, CSWGF reflects research and work completed in the classroom then curated for journal publication.

    This particular issue examines a variety of topics central to the leadership of women. Several cases investigate gender discrimination in the workplace and in places of higher learning, and document that change is often difficult to achieve in established institutions. Many of these cases explore challenges in making leadership decisions though case studies of specific women. This is showcased in a case study of Rachel Carson and her campaign for environmental regulation and in the case on Maria Pearson and her fight for the repatriation of Native American remains. Two of the cases in this issue explore women’s leadership during and following Hurricane Katrina.

Published periodically, CSWGF reflects research and work completed in the classroom then curated for journal publication.

    This particular issue examines a variety of topics central to the leadership of women. Health is central to several of these cases, including an analysis of sex education in the state of Louisiana, one woman’s fight to improve tumor profiling, and in an exploration of the topic of pre-term birth. Julia Butterfly Hill’s campaign to protect old growth forest is the focus of another one of the case studies in this issue. Workplace discrimination is highlighted in an analysis of workplace harassment in the technology industry and in a case study of discrimination in the U.S. Forest Service.

Published periodically, CSWGF reflects research and work completed in the classroom then curated for journal publication.

    This particular issue examines the challenges of making leadership decisions. The articles in this issue demonstrate that leadership is not always easy and sometimes requires controversial decisions to be made on the part of the leader or the organization in order to effect change. Making these hard choices often falls on the shoulders of women and can be risky for them both personally and professionally.

    This particular issue focuses on women leading change through policy and social movements. It also includes the 2015 Newcomb College Institute Senior Symposium lecture entitled “The Problem That Isn’t Ours” delivered and written by author Katy Smith.

Published periodically, CSWGF reflects research and work completed in the classroom then curated for journal publication.

    This particular issue focuses on women leading change in organizations. It also includes the 2014 Annual Adele Ramos Salzer Lecture entitled "What's Feminism Got to Do With It?: Women's Leadership for Social Change" delivered by Dr. Mary Trigg of Rutgers University as well as a case study entitled "The Case of Dean Diana Garland: Taking a Stand at Southern Baptist Seminary" by Katie Lauve-Moon, a doctoral candidate in Tulane University's City, Culture, & Community program and one of CSWGF 's editors.
