Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements:
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- Submissions should include citations in the form of linked endnotes or footnotes. These must be true footnotes or endnotes (created using the “references” tab in Microsoft Word), not text that has been manually entered and formatted to appear as a footnote/endnote. If your submission is accepted in this format, we may ask you to reformat it before we can begin the editorial process. Supra/infra notes should be linked when possible.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point, Times New Roman font; uses one-inch margins; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- All images, figures, charts, and tables must be high-quality, meaning that the image, figure, chart, or table can be expanded up to 200% and still be clear and readable.
- All images, figures, charts, and tables must be small enough to fit on the page without sacrificing readability. The maximum size is 4.5 x 6.5 inches. Any text/details must still be readable when the image/chart is small enough to fit (e.g., keep font at 12 points).
- Images, figures, charts, and tables should NOT rely on color to communicate information. Any patterns in charts (e.g. stripes, polka dots) should still be easy to distinguish.
- All images, figures, charts, and tables must include a caption and alt-text. Captions should be brief but descriptive and are limited to two sentences.
- Alt-text has two parts: A labeling to specify what the image is (e.g. image, picture, chart, graph, figure, etc.) and a description of the essential information that explains what is being shown.
- Images, figures, charts, and tables must be placed within the text where they are meant to appear or a clear placeholder must be present (e.g. “Please place Figure 1 here”).
